GREEN BAY SHIPWRECK

This is the wreck of probably a Turkish Man-Of-War ship that sunk in 1571 just after the first turkish invansion in Cyprus (Famagusta). It is said that one of the ships of ‘Lala Mustafa’ (leader of the invasion), after been shot by a cannon, left to the south for repairs but didn’t make it, and sunk 7 miles south near the coast. There is also another popular story about a woman (one of the female prisoners to be sent to Constantinopole as a present) that fired up the cannon powder store room and the ship was exploded. No one knows exactly what happened. This is an archeological site with maximum depth is 27m, and one can see the remains of the ship including a few cannons lying around.
